Shortlist - Salon Awards

"An esteemed panel of judges have narrowed down hundreds of entries from around the country to produce the shortlist for this year's Awards. The judges, including Schwarzkopf national technical manager Mark Todd, Indola technical manager Shane Meadows, and hairdressers Ross Taylor of Falltricks and Anne Veck of Anne Veck Hair, gathered at Clynol’s London Academy on Monday 14th January to set about the difficult task.Speaking about the high standard of entries, marketing specialist and fellow judge Jenny Paul said: "Young Stylist of the Year was very challenging to judge, it’s so refreshing to have a new category like this, and great for salons who don’t normally get involved with photography. "Very encouraging. I love judging these awards, Clynol accounts are so free-thinking – I love it, it’s right out of the box!"The winners will be announced in March when there are some top prizes including trophies, cash prizes and tickets to major events such as the British Hairdressing Awards and the British Hairdressing Business Awards up for grabs." The Best of Shrewsbury Award (press release)

Printed in The Shropshire Star 10/01/08

"A Shrewsbury hair salon and coffee shop has won the first ever local business award organised by business and community website thebestof shrewsbury.

Winners of the ‘Best Health and Beauty Business’ award, as voted for by their customers through thebestof shrewsbury website, is K2 The Salon. Established in 2005 and located in the Darwin Centre their entry, which has been on thebestof shrewsbury for just over a year, has created a number of new clients.

Commenting on the award and the success of their thebestof entry, Jo Stephens director and salon manager at K2 The Salon, said: “Not only have we generated regular new customers to the salon but also people from outside the area who are visiting friends and relatives in Shrewsbury or looking to have their hair styled for a local wedding. With links from thebestof, we have recently launched our own website at http://www.k2thesalon.co.uk/ where customers can book appointments online.”

Each business has a dedicated web page including up to 400 words of text, photographs and full contact details, with links to their own website and email address on the www.thebestof.co.uk/shrewsbury. In addition, the site also provides a variety of free information covering local news, weather, events, education, essential services, arts and culture.

Andy Rao, director at thebestof shrewsbury said: “We launched the awards scheme with the aim of providing an opportunity for local businesses to increase their company profile and exposure in and around the area. Each month there will be a specific category for which they may be nominated. K2 The Salon is certainly one of the most popular; they received 61% of the votes which is a great achievement for the Jo and her team.”

He continued: “Voting has already started for the ‘Best Legal and Finance Business’ award and the winner will be announced in February. Over the next 12 months we will see awards for ‘Best Tradesman,’ Best Family Owned Business,’ as well as a number of others.”

Philip Minton Biography

Philip a Bond Street stylist during the swinging 60’s has trained and worked along side some of the cream of British hairdressers. He opened his first hair salon at twenty-two. After over 30 years of building up the Kameo salon group he opened an innovative salon called K2, in the Darwin Shopping Centre Shrewsbury, which daughter Jo Stephens successfully manages and has won awards for. He has had salons all over the midlands and north west.

Philip is a family man who has an enthusiastic and passionate attitude towards hairdressing. Philip believes that the best asset to any salon are the staff, so employee development is a top priority. As well as receiving on-site training, all his staff are regularly sent on ‘excellent’ training courses at the Academy in London / Manchester.

All of Philips team are trained to the same high standard and are kept up to date with the most modern techniques and styles. Philip encourages each stylist to be individual and creative in their own right.

Philip and his team of stylists pamper clients from the moment they step into the salon until they leave, and whether you book in for a consultation, colour or re-style just one stylist will be involved throughout. Customer service and the atmosphere in the salons are also paramount to Philips success. If you are happy with our service tell your friends, if not tell us.

K2 launched the K2 website in 2007 which has greatly improved communication not only with existing, but also with potential clients. These days busy lifestyles often mean it is far easier to make an appointment online or send us a enquiry via e-mail. This service is easy to use and available to everyone 24 /7. The blog has been particularly successful as it has enabled current and potential customers to see what our stylists and trainees are achieving. These online diaries give K2 an excellent opportunity to post current photographs and videos. This has greatly enhanced communication with clients as K2 can receive instant feedback.

Philip and his team regularly style hair for fashion shows, photo shoots and specialise in doing creative styles for weddings and other special occasions. Philip and his team regularly get involved in local & national charity events, raising money through hair demanstrations and funky fashion shows (often showcasing young local up and coming fashion designers).
